The plan in one go

Keep your citizenship, leave Singapore for work, and treat CPF as a safety net you top up later, not a cage. Here's the whole thing in 30 seconds.

"Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn't do than by the ones you did do."Often attributed to Mark Twain
Rule 1

🇸🇬 Never renounce

CPF LIFE, MediShield Life and CareShield Life all end the month after you renounce. Stay a citizen and every safety net waits for you, wherever you live.

Rule 2

🎩 Skill pays everywhere

The people who pull off "travel young" for years have a skill people pay for anywhere. Yours: magic and performing, then events and sales from the business degree.

Rule 3

💸 Save 20% first

From your first paid gig, put 20% away before you spend on travel. It's the difference between travelling at 25 and being stuck at 40.

Rule 4

🪖 NS is the wall

Exit Permit for 3+ months abroad before NS, about 2 years of full-time NS, then ~10 years of reservist you fly back for. Plan around it, never against it.

Rule 5

🛂 Use the youth visas

Australia and New Zealand let Singaporeans aged 18–30 work and travel for a year with no job offer. That window closes at 31. Use it.

Rule 6

🏥 Fund old-age insurance

Shield plan premiums can pass S$8,000 a year in your late 70s. Build a separate health fund from your 30s (see Gate 10) so it never eats your retirement.
